Fantastic to be back on the park after the 2 week break for school holidays - everyone was excited and raring to go! Captain of the Day Lacey led from the front as usual - running hard into offence and defence, and fighting for loose balls all over the field. Mia played some super 1v1 defence and along with Tia and Charlotte L created some fantastic opportunities running hard into attack against some determined opponents.
The Camberwell Lacrosse Club has a growing girl's and women's program and it's no surprise that three of our most talented players have been selected for the Victorian Under 18 girls team.
Congratulations to Ruby Pagliaro, Trinity Meachem and Rhyannon Bergin!
The team will be competing in the Australian U18 national championships this year in Adelaide.
We were fortunate enough to catch up with the three girls at the Lacrosse Australia Senior Nationals to quiz them about their selection.
Camberwell’s Under 12’s played their first lightning carnival on Sunday. It was a brisk autumn morning and the team was pumped. Six other teams competed at the Footscray lacrosse club. With every 7 minute game, Camberwell got more competitive and stronger. It was a great introduction to checking. Tia scored her first goal which then flowed on to more scores. Mia flew down the field often working seamlessly with her brother Hudson. Amelia was a brave goalie not flinching and saved us more than once.
Our under 12's were faced with a well fielded team from Newport and coached by the legendary Stacey Morlang Sullivan - Australian women’s team captain. Newport were fast from first whistle applying pressure to Camberwell with some early goals. Responding to the pace, Mia Lander stepped in quickly to return pressure and defend the attack on our goals. With the first few goals going through, Hudson Lander in Goals put all of himself on the line with quick reflexes to also slow the attack.

Camberwell's State League team got 2022 off to a good start with a win against last years fourth placed team, Caulfield. The game was originally scheduled as a home game, but the condition of Eric Raven Reserve meant a late shift to Caulfield. Let's hope Boroondara Council can patch the holes and sort out the surface before the next scheduled home game.
