Blitz on a Streak: Camberwell 10 def Altona 8

After a slow start the Blitz made a mighty comeback to topple their higher-placed opponents in an exciting contest at Altona.

Altona surprised the Blitz with three opening goals and a dominant midfield to lead by three at the quarter break.  When they added another goal soon into the second term things looked grim.  Ned Mckenna was working hard at face-off but his skilled opponent kept dragging the ball forward and giving Altona first use of the ball. Ashby took over in the centre and won handsomely to set the Wells on a scoring spree as McKenna, Bigaignon, Whelen and Varick Boyd found the net.  When Boyd added his second just before half time the Blitz had recovered to be 5-all.

The Camberwell  defence worked overtime in the second half with Frank McKenna superb in goals and Campbell, Barber and Woon blocking Altona to keep them scoreless.  Finn Whelen and Tubb did some impressive groundball work and running out of defence to enable Bigaignon and Ned McKenna to score and put the Wells up by two at the break.  The final quarter brought a shootout with the ball seesawing from end to end and Altona scoring twice.   Tom Sharp outplayed three opponents to win a tough ball near goal and almost brought off the perfect play with a quick shot which just failed to find the goal.   Ashby was again proving a match-winner at faceoff.  Bigaignon steadied the Wells with a great goal and Ed Whelen put the game beyond doubt with two slick finishes off Boyd assists.

Scorers:  Bigaignon 3, E. Whelen 3, N. McKenna 2, V. Boyd 2
