U13 Match Report - Sat. 13th April
Camberwell Blitz 3 lost to Williamstown 11
A couple of injured players and the long weekend combined to limit the Blitz to just 8 players for their game against the reigning premiers Williamstown.
Saskia Hollenkamp, from out U13 Girls team, offered to play and help out and Williamstown loaned a couple to us for what turned out to be an entertaining game and a great learning experience for the young Blitz team. Camberwell surprised the opposition when Ned McKenna took early control at face-off and worked hard to score the opening goal of the game on a dodging play. Saskia almost scored soon after on a feed from Ed Whelen but the ball slipped wide.
Williamstown's quicker stickwork and superior positioning soon began to tell and by half time they had slipped away to an 8 to 2 lead. Lachie Falconer-Boag was dynamic around the packs, picking up ground balls and bursting clear to drive the ball into the Camberwell attack. Blitz slowed the Williamstown scoring in the second half with Finn Whelen and Colby Gale running hard in midfield. Rob Barber became more assertive in defence and combined well with Frank McKenna to make the path to goal more difficult. Frank saved brilliantly a number of times as goalie and Ashby got busy on the midfield to win some hard-fought possessions.
Goals: N. McKenna 3
Assists: C. Gale
Best : F. McKenna, N. McKenna, L. Falconer-Boag.
