U13 Blitz Pipped in Thriller
With Liam Campbell and Rob Barker unavailable the Blitz went into the game with a diminished defensive line-up. Surrey exploited this with a good start to score two opening goals before Falconer-Boag got the Blitz on the scoreboard with two goals. Surrey went to the first break a goal ahead but Camberwell bounced back strongly in the second term with Ed Whelen and Falconer-Boag scoring and Ned Mc Kenna finding the net twice.
Colby Gale, Ashton Tubb and Tom Sharp were working well in defense and restricted Surrey to a single goal to have the Wells 6-4 up at half-time.
With Surrey dominating the face-off, Camberwell's defense found themselves under constant pressure. Angus Ashby came to the rescue with some tough centre play and nice goaltending by Frank McKenna kept many of the Surrey attacks at bay. Unfortunately, their bigger players got the better of the Wells with some quick passing and they notched 3 goals to Camberwell's two. At 8-7 up at three-quarter time we were headed for a tight finish.
Surrey opened the final term with a barrage of three quick goals to take a two goal lead. Ned McKenna dodged and fed Zac Bigaignon for a score and soon after Ed Whelen got the ball again for a Bigaignon goal. Surrey answered to take the lead and a desperate late attempt by Ned McKenna hit the goalies stick and stayed out with Camberwell one goal short.
