Camberwell 14 def Williamstown Fearon 9

Frank Mc Kenna and Varick Boyd got Camberwell off to a good start with goals in the first period but Williamstown were fast and skilful and the signs were there that this would be a big test.  Angus Ashby  as goalie continued his scintillating form from last week,  blocking shots, scampering out for groundballs and clearing with precision.  At quarter time it was an even tussle with two goals apiece.  After the change of ends Miles Cowton came to the midfield and carried the Wells to the lead with nice feeds for goals to Edward Whelen and Boyd plus a goal of his own.  Whelen dodged for a second and the Wells had a two goal break at halftime.

With Rupert Grant controlling the defence and Ashby still prominent the ball got forward to Lucien Minto who beat his opponent and dumped to Whelen for another score. Boyd was now in attack and Ashton Tubb wrestled a loose ball and passed for Boyd score.  This started a five goal quarter for Boyd with Minto, McKenna, Whelen and Cowton all getting assists in a great team effort.  At 13-6 the game was well under control but the players did not ease off.  Tubb won a tough ground ball contest and ran forward to place a nice pass with Minto who picked up his second assist when he found Whelen free.

Best:        Ashby, Cowton, McKenna

Goals:      Boyd 7, Whelen 4, McKenna  3, Cowton 1

Assists:    Cowton 3, Whelen 3, Minto 2, Tubb 2, Boyd 2, Grant 1, McKenna 1

Camberwell Magic 2 def by Surrey Park 13

The Magic Boys had a tough day in the park on Saturday with only 8 players showing up. Surrey Park agreed to play 8 a side which left Surrey with two on the bench. I must admit it's a little hard to relay events quarter by quarter as I umpired this game and was unable to take notes. This was one of those games, even though we lost, that the players, all of them, should be really proud. Lacrosse is a really hard game to play with no subs and as much as you can rotate players from the midfield to defence or attack its still tough. The boys did not quit all day and as tough as it was they looked as though they had fun. The Final score was Surrey 13 Magic 2 but this was one of those games where the score does not reflect how close the game really was. Tim Ducret did a great job in goals all day and the shin pads I lent him came in very handy. Its a hard gig having to rotate players in goals and Tim's gutsy effort should not go unmentioned. Marcus Woon and George De Bono did a good job in defence with a number of intercepts and clears. Alexandre did a good job attack wise and I think got both goals. My apologies as I cant remember whom got the assists...sorry. Really good team effort by the boys, each and every player gave it their best shot and that's all you can ever ask for.
