Match report for Sat. 16-May

Under 11

Camberwell 16 def Malvern Black 4

Malvern got off to a quick start by posting  the two opening goals of the game and our boys were looking nonplussed in the face of the opposition's fast breaks and rapid ball movement.  Varick Boyd and Miles Cowton steadied the ship with answering goals but Malvern struck back with two more.  When Edward Whelen found the net from Colby Gale's nicely weighted pass the quarter time score was 4-3 in favour of the Blacks.

Boyd shifted to attack and made immediate impact with goals and a nice assist to Frank McKenna.  Zac Bigaignon saved nicely in goals and Angus Ashby ran the ball downfield for another Boyd goal.  When Gale planted a strong outside shot and followed with second the Wells had skipped to a 6-4 lead.  After halftime Camberwell exerted their control .  Ashton Tubb was showing growing confidence as he broke up plays on the midfield and dodged to give Whelen a goal.  Whelen went on a spree, dashing clear and sweeping across the goal to score 4 for the term.  Grant got strong positions and was unlucky not to score and Bigaignon now active on the midfield was giving plenty of drive.  Tubb was superb in defence and   Ashby was again showing his goalkeeping skills as the game ended.
