Under 11's played a round robin opening week at Chadstone to start the season.
Camberwell 10 def Chadstone 0
Frank McKenna and Miles Cowton opened impressively with early goals for Camberwell and were soon joined by Rob Barber who netted two nice goals in the first half. The 7-0 scoreline at halftime allowed Camberwell to experiment with their passing and bring new players Ashton Tubb and Colby Gale into the game. Angus Ashby scored for Camberwell and Cowton added two more to bring his match tally to four. Colby picked up two assists in his first match.
Camberwell 3 def Malvern Black 2
In a close encounter with the Blacks, McKenna kept Camberwell in the game with some great groundballs and a nice opening goal. Scores were tied 1-1 at the halftime break and Barber made the difference in the second period when he dodged twice and found the net with well-placed shots. Cowton was superb in goals and turned many Malvern attacking plays. Ashby, Tubb and Gale were all busy around the midfield and helped restrict the opposition to a single goal.
Camberwell 6 def Malvern Red 1
Ashby showed poise to grab a loose ball, dodge and plant a beautiful pass into McKenna's stick on the goalcrease for Camberwell's opening goal. He followed up soon after with a goal of his own and then assisted as Barber put a third on the scoreboard. Tubb was winning a terrific battle against his opponent and came up with repeated groundballs and dodging runs to clear the Wells into attack. Up forward Gale showed good positional sense to get free and record two nice assists. The team celebrated when Gale took a pass near goal and rammed it home for his first-ever goal.
