Cannons halt the Tanks

Camberwell’s Under 11 teams went head to head in a night match played on Thursday in front of a good crowd of spectators.  The Cannons came out on top by 12 – 6, inflicting the first loss on the Tanks for this year.

The match commenced with a special guard of honour formed by the Under 15 and Under 17 teams who interrupted their training to cheer the club’s youngest players onto the field through an avenue of raised lacrosse sticks.  It was a stirring start to a hard-contested game that featured some gasps of delight from the fans as the 11’s showed how quickly new players can adapt to the skills of lacrosse.

Bailey Nicholls set the Cannons going with two opening goals and when Nick O’Meara and Emma Hew followed his lead, the Tanks found themselves stunned at 3-0 down at the quarter break.  The bombardment continued with slick scoring from Remy Turner and Billy Norton but Andrew Balzat-Fuller struck back for the Tanks and Joel Goldhagen opened his account to make the half-time score 7-2 for the Cannons.

Daniel Frawley and Hamish Thompson were battling hard for the tanks in defence but Billy Norton flashed through to score and Jasper Forsyth followed to put the game out of reach for the Tanks.  James Wright was prominent with 4 assists for the Cannons.
