2019 Women's Semi Finals
All teams progress through to next weeks finals!
U13 Girls
The U13 girls had a loss to Eltham/Surrey Park by one goal. The game was close all day and the girls were a bit unlucky. At the end of the last quarter Camberwell had the chance to even the score but a freespace violation from Eltham resulted in the whistle blowing as Rhyannon shot the ball into the back of the net. Rhyannon was given a free position shot which she again buried in the back of the net as another whistle went for another Eltham violation. On her third attempt the goalie saved the shot. With no stop clock in juniors, the time then ran out.
Fortunately the girls get to play next week against Footscray next week to qualify for a rematch with Eltham in the grand final.
U15 Girls
The U15 girls team scraped into the finals half a game ahead of Newport, but with the knowledge that they had a 1-1 record against Eltham/Surrey Park they were optimistic.
From the start, our girls controlled the game. Trinity won the first draw and took the ball straight to goal. The midfielders then proceeded to dominate the centre draw, winning possession more often than not. Ruby scored two goals in the first quarter and Rhyannon one to give a 4-1 lead at the quarter. In the second quarter, Eltham's defence worked hard to bring them back into the game. It became harder to score, with Trinity managing to slot a second, answered by a goal from Eltham.
The highlight goal of the game occured when Eltham were trying to clear. As the Eltham goalie stepped out of the goal circle, all our attackers found an Eltham player to prevent an easy pass. Rhyannon was too close to goal to go to a player down the field so pressed the goalie instead. Being only 11 and not particularly tall, she struggled to reach the stick of the goalie. After a few attempts to check, she eventually jumped and checked hard enough to dislodge the ball. It was then an easy gather and goal. Camberwell led by 6-2 at half time.
In the second half, both teams played strong defensive games. Zalie, Natalie, Eva, Meg, Danielle, Maddy and Siena all worked hard to stop goals and rebound the ball. Trinity scored two more goals in the third and Natalie scored from a dashing run from defence in the last. Eltham could only add 4 to close the gap by one. The final score was 9-6.
It is a great effort for the girls considering all but two are still qualified for U15 next year. The girls play Footscray next week as they attempt to progress to the Grand Final.
Women's A Grade
Camberwell finished on top of the A grade ladder and took on last years premiers, Eltham. The game was a close affair all day. Camberwell took a one goal lead at quarter time and were three up at half but Eltham fought back to even the game by 3 quarter time. In the last quarter Grace dominated through the midfield shooting 3 goals to bring her tally to 5. Two more to Kelly for 6 in total and one to Alex sealed a 16-14 win and direct entry to the grand final.
