2019 under 18 nationals
Our Camberwell representatives arrived back from the under 18 nationals this week. The Victorian boys team was dominant and easily won every game, including the title against SA. The girls draw was far more even, with the teams finishing on even points after the pool rounds. Victoria made it through to the championship game but were beaten by SA.
Laura Braakhuis
Laura played in the midfield. She showed great ability to do whatever the coach asked, including defending and contesting at the draw. She scored a goal against the NZ Waikato team. It was a great way to end her junior career by representing Victoria.
Saskia Hollenkamp
Saskia also played midfield. Whenever possible she used her dynamite speed and stick skills to bring the Vic girls to goal. She scored a goal against Waikato and an assist in the grand final game. With another two years of under 18, big things are coming for Saskia.
Joseph Pagliaro
In his final appearance in the Under 18 team, Joey played a brilliant tournament. He played in attack and top scored for the tournament with 15 goals and 9 assists. He was named in the Australian All Stars team for the second year running. His work in the last two games was great to watch, with 5 goals and 3 assists in the final - check it out on ALN Youtube.
Lee Davis
Lee was an assistant to Head Coach Chris Marsh and in charge of the defence. Lee coached a formidable defensive unit which conceded only 9 goals across the 4 games (vs 62 goals scored by our attack). Lee could be easily heard at all the games from every corner of East Fremantle shouting “home, home, home” and “numbers”, providing guidance and encouragement to the boys . The quality of the defence through the preparation months also played a large part in creating an offence that was tough and polished and were able to overwhelm the opposition.
