General Meeting Minutes of LV Junior Sub committee

As there's a lot of focus on junior recruitment, LV have formed a special Junior subcommittee to provide special attention to this area. Following are the minutes of their most recent meeting held February 2nd.

1. Finals for U13 Girls. It was generally agreed by the group that kids enjoy playing and would like to have additional games, by way of finals. Most voted and agreed to recommend the U13 Girls finals to the match committee.

Under 17 Presidents Team

Lacrosse Victoria are fielding a President's side for the Under 17 national championships. This move allows ALA to invite participation from states that might not otherwise be able to give their talented players exposure to the best on offer. Another dimension is that this affords talented players the chance to be seen by the Australian and other national coaches. If you're interested in joining the team, please send your applications to the LV office.

Club News Bulletin

Congratulations to Jan Jackson who was appointed Technical Delegate at the upcoming FIL Under 19 Women's World Championship in Hanover, Germany in August 2011. If your game has been umpired by Jan you know her judgement is impeccable. Jan is one of our life members and still regularly umpires indoor competitions and Senior women's games.

Highlights from the third issue, 20th February 2011.

1. The President of the ALA, Fiona Clark, was this year's guest speaker. She spoke for about forty minutes and provided an informative insight into the workings, motivations, and mindset of ALA. She also discussed the association's efforts at working on a Junior Development Programme. Of interest is the widespread level of lacrosse uptake around the world, and particularly in Europe. For example, there is now a competition in Greece!

U17 & U19 Boys and U17 & U21 Girls State Teams 2011

Everyone knows that the under age competition is the highlight of the junior lacrosse calendar. You see some pretty good lacrosse and fighting spirit from these kids. Last year Victoria took the U19 Boys national championship for the eight straight year while our girls won the U17 Janet Jackson Tournament Trophy and the Gold Medal.

Applications are now being called for players to trial for the State Teams who will compete in the National Championships to be played in Melbourne from 17th to 23rd April. Melbourne last hosted the Junior Nationals in 2008.

Saxby pavilion inundated

Our three grounds, Dorothy Laver, Eric Raven, and Saxby were in one way or another damaged by the floods. A rundown of the casualties:

Eric Raven was the worst of the lot with more than half of the reserve having been flooded, depositing a large amount of debris including sand and rock on the ground. Storage containers were dragged 25 metres downstream, and the green water tanks are now down near High St. Portables on the ground side of the car park were up to 18 inches in water and moved a bit off their foundations.
