2011 Club Referee Accreditation Courses

Season 2011 is about to kick off and clubs are busy finalising preparations. One more thing we need to take care of is providing referees for each match. Of course, our referees must be qualified and duly accredited by ALRA or Camberwell will be fined.

ALRA are conducting a Club Referee Accreditation course next month. The course is to be held in two sessions over two weeks. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be conferred two-year club referee accreditation.

State League

State League Mens and Womens games were played at Albert Park on both the grass field and the synthetic ground.

This author departed Melbourne in sunny and warm conditions on Saturday morning with the car thermometer reading a balmy 27 degrees. Shorts and T shirts were the order of the day.

U11 Girls VICLAX Programme

Lacrosse Victoria is trialling a new programme for girls U11 called VICLAX. The programme will be integrated into the women’s fixture. It is in the style of AUSKICK where players from all clubs come together in groups regardless of club. Players are rotated through stations of different activities where they will be professionally coached in different skills. A short game will be played afterwards.

Match Reports - March 28, 2011

Under 13

Score: Camberwell 1 - Williamstown 9

The first game started at 11am in Altona. CLC had a full team. The improvement in our game was obvious as the girls made passes, defended, and placed themselves on the field. Thanks to the preseason training given by the club at MILL, the girls’ confidence and game skills were outstanding.

Experienced girls are mentoring our new recruits and the pairing up of players really helped keep the game moving. Compared to last season when Williamstown were winning 18-nil, our defensive skills were terrific this year.

Transport to Warrnambool

Just a week to go before the Australian Lacrosse Classic kicks off. A lot of clubs are expected to troop to Warrnambool for the games.

LV is making it easier for clubs planning to hire buses for the trip. The association has corporate accounts with Budget, Hertz, and Europcar. This means cheaper mini van hires. 12 & 24 seater buses are available for hire but the 24-seaters can only be driven by drivers with the appropriate licence.

Note that clubs cannot book directly with these hire companies. All bookings must be done through Lacrosse Victoria.

Warrnambool Fixture

LV have announced the fixture for the State League matches on Saturday, 9 April. Camberwell will play Surrey Park on the synthetic surface.

The schedule for the other teams are as follows:

Women's

  • 1:00pm: Altona/Caulfield vs Newport
  • 2:15pm: Williamstown vs Footscray

Fundraiser for Clinton and Travis

As announced in a previous news bulletin, two Camberwell players have made the Australian Indoor Lacrosse team. Travis Gathercole and Clinton Lander will be part of the Australian side in the World Indoor Lacrosse Championships this May.
