Preview: State League v Caulfield
Where and when: Eric Raven Reserve, Saturday May 9, 2:30pm AEST
Last time: Camberwell 19 def Caulfield 14 at Camberwell.
FORM:
Camberwell: LLL
Caulfield: WWL
SUMMARY:
The result of previous matches between these two sides has hardly gone true to form. Caulfield snatched a surprise win 2 seasons back when Camberwell were pushing for a top 4 berth. Yet Camberwell were comfortable winners in both games last season when Caulfield were the form side.
This season, they meet with both teams coming off rather unexpected results. Camberwell with an OT loss to Footscray and Caulfield with a 1 goal loss (10-11) to last years grand finalist Eltham.
Camberwell's forwards have yet to fire this season, with most goals coming through the midfield. Camberwell's forwards in the past have had the edge on the Caulfield defense so this is a good opportunity for them to find the net.
Camberwell, still seething from their shock loss last week, will be out to take the 4 points. See you there!
KEY MATCHUPS:
Lander v Stark: Faceoff wins between these two are fairly even, but Lander does come out on top in possession. The winner of this contest should decide the game.
Davis v Townley: With Masi out for the season, Davis looks the leading choice to match up on Townley. With 3 third quarter goals against Eltham last week, reducing the influence of Townley will help.
Gloutnay v Rodrigues: Rodrigues booming outside shot is a concern for all sides facing Caulfield. 4 goals last week against Mackey (Eltham keeper) is no mean feat. Has been fortunate in the past against Camberwell to find a short stick on him, but expect that to change Saturday. Gloutnay's speed, rebounding and nagging persistence will trouble Rodrigues.
PLAYER TO WATCH:
Joel Easson: With youth, speed, silky skills and a rocket of a shot, we could in for a show this week. With Caulfield's defence focussing on Camberwell's traditional scoring avenues, a big opening is available for Easson.
