Preview: State League v Altona

Where and when: P.J. Lynch Reserve, Saturday June 20, 2:30pm AEST
Last time: First year back in State League for Altona

FORM:

Camberwell: LLWLL
Altona: LLLLW

SUMMARY:

With this week match marking the halfway point of the season, Camberwell meet Altona. While Altona have one more win, Camberwell trail Altona by 1 point due to the new point’s allocation system.

Altona popped up for a surprise win last week against Caulfield. Townley and Rodrigues scored 5 apiece for Caulfield but it wasn't enough and went down by 3. Altona shared the scoring around Cliffe, Mackinnon, Maher and Lewer all scoring multiples. It appears the larger number of scoring avenues for Altona was the difference.

Whilst it didn't show on the scoreboard, Camberwell are coming off a great effort last week. They did go down 3-17 to Eltham, but their excellent off-ball defence effectively shut down Eltham's cutting game. Of the 17 goals, 5 were assisted.

Taking that style into this weeks match will go along way to winning. Altona do share the ball around a lot and have a high number of assisted goals. A disruption to their normal flow up front could prove their undoing.

PLAYER TO WATCH:

Clinton Lander: Being one to watch every week, he comes up against a side without a notable face off. Possession from the face will be crucial and he looks the man to do it.
