State League

It was a morning of trepidation, in my memory I have never walked into a State League fourth round match 0 – 3. The sun was shinning, disguising the chill that engulfed the Camberwell bench minutes before the call to arms.

Chadstone, a missing fixture in State League for near on a decade, had been decimated in their first two games of 2011. But still higher on the ladder than Camberwell thanks to a bye.  It was not a question of Camberwell’s ability to defend and hold Chadstone to minimal; it was a question if Camberwell could score. No Cocky, so one was left questioning where the goals would come from.

Six short poles raising their hand to say ‘I am good for one’ nobody demanding the ball and saying ‘I am good for six’. This was a game of not physical ability, but rather psychological. A 3 – 0 first quarter in our favour set the tone, the result never in question. Camberwell State League’s first win for season 2011.

Camberwell ended up winning 11 –  6. Extracting a small amount of momentum, carrying us into next weeks match .. Eltham.
